Second only to Six Flags, Grease is me favorite endevor I've taken part in. I'll be extremely sad to see it go.

I want to say thanks to all of the amazing people who made this show happen. I have learned so much through this experience, from some of the most talented people I've ever had the joy of working with. I have to say I was extremely suprized and honored when Scott called me and told me I had been cast in Grease, and that feeling still hasn't changed.

To everyone who saw and supported the show, thank you too. If theatre goers didn't go to the theatre then is wouldn'y happen. We have had extremely supportive crowds, and have been very well recieved, and I more then anybody am extremely happy.

Lastly, thank you to Scott and everyone who taught me so much throughout the rehearsal process and the shows run. I walk out of this much more mature then I was coming into it.

I intend to come see Urinetown, and I'm sure it will be just as great, and hopefully just as successful as Grease has been.

I LOVE YOU ALL! YOU ROCK!

Closing my Grease blog, and signing off!
Love,
Erin

Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com31tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-34056080970132551742007-02-26T15:36:00.000-06:002007-02-26T15:39:33.909-06:00Look At Me, I'm Sandra DeeI'm not sure how many people can read it, but I found a really interesting article about Sandra Dee and her films and the effect they has on teenage females and their sexual habbits in the 1950's. Make's me sad, but I think I've learned more then enough about Patty Simcox to carry her through Grease. We will be running through the entire show from now until the time we open, which is amazing. I've never had so much time to work ON the set before. I'm really excited.

So since I have no Grease pictures or anything today, I bring you... IMDB says it was released in 1960. But anyway, these two gangster guys high fived. It was extremely awkward, but anyway. High fiving didn't come to the U.S. untill the like 70's or 80's. Boy are we ever behind on the lame hand genstures. Just a thought!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-57561144570029045002007-02-07T14:05:00.000-06:002007-02-07T14:13:44.997-06:00No Witty Headline from Grease TodaySo I found something really cool just a few minutes ago.

http://www.dmarie.com/timecap/

You can type in dates, or years and get all kinds of information on what happened and what was popular then. I'm not sure how accurate for the inner city kids of Grease it would be, but I think it's really cool. I've been typing in every day between the first day of school and graduation since I found it, hehe.

It's also looking like we're all going to go out swing dancing as a cast on friday night, which will be amazing. I could use some practice! Plus, it's an excuse for me to buy an awesome swing dancing dress! Sweet!

The original Broadway Patty Simcox and her Rizzo
Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-35603668430712140982007-02-06T14:44:00.000-06:002007-02-06T14:50:04.117-06:00Can't You Hand Jive Yet!?!?!Well, I haven't written in a very long time!

Nick and I watched something... Planet, CLoud... Nine... Ten Vampire Lady or something last night. It was interesting. I'm starting to realise that these movies they showed at drive-ins back in '58 are the movies I make now. Aweful. Lol, but some of them aren't bad. My personal favorites: "High School Hell Cats" and "I Was A Teenage Werewolf."

Anyway, we watched it along with a RiffTracks recording, which made it even better. It was a lot more interesting listening to some guy making fun of it. At first I was really mad Nick wanted to make fun of my research, but then when we were watching it, the track brought up a lot of things that we've been talking about in rehearsal and things that Scott wrote about in the chapter, and it made me pay more attention to the differances in the movies then and now. He would point of the bad quality, or make some remark about how conservative things were then.

Any way, I'm off to do my Video Production assignment. See everyone tonight!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-39004999953972519822007-02-02T20:21:00.000-06:002007-02-02T20:23:08.632-06:00On a Side NoteJust letting everyone know, Red Ink's two years allowance to be entered into film festivals is almost up, so we're about to say goodbye to a very impressive run. Actually a few in one. Still doing a ton of research. there are a few things I'm noy so sure about as far as why Patty says certain things... like why she tells Sandy "let's practice." I found this picture of the original broadway cast.

Most of the cast went out last night to eat and drink which was fun. We had a great time talking and stuff like we usually do. Isabel is starting to look like a pro with her ciggarette in her hand.

We ran ACT I which felt a little better then it has, now that Patty is growing into something that isn't Suzanne Summers on crack. Anyway I'm mostly off book. OK I am off book, but I'm pretty sure I'm mixing up a word here and there which I HATE, so I'll have to go through my script again.

OK, off to Jazz class!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-51004079479530019342007-01-31T10:23:00.000-06:002007-01-31T10:28:28.884-06:00No Hollywood Glamor!
I really didn't think it would be so difficult to find pictures of realy people in the 50's. Everything is Hollywood pictures, or glamorous styles and what not. Anyway, I'm discovering that people really didn't look as gorgeous and glamorous as I always thought they did. they were just kind of plain, like now, only even more plain... and less people were over weight. probably from all that dancing. I guess they didn't really have as many indoor things like TV, internet and video games and what not. The went out dancing a lot more. And they went to the movies. Well off to 6 hours of class I go. I have to work on my cinematography project, but I plan on forcing my boyfriend to watch Night of the Demon and Curse of the Demon with me tonight for some more relaxing research. See everyone tomorrow!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-73183406201773906052007-01-30T21:27:00.000-06:002007-01-30T21:32:03.907-06:00There Are Worse Things I Could DoI read the chapter on Grease in that autobiography. It's really interesting how so many people think Grease is a bubblegum pop cheesy neon color fest, and it's not. According to her it was never supposed to be. And apperently Patty used to have a solo (DAMN YOU!) but hey shit happens. I guess changes just had to be made. She said the show wasn't working, and it got just aweful reviews. I guess they just didn't get it.

Well anyway, I must watch Sunset Boulivard for my film noir research paper. clean my room (arg), write another page of that paper, rearange the closet, and then find time to sleep. Class from 11-4pm tomorrow and then another rehearsal. Oh man, I better look up those songs my voice teacher gave me. Weel good night then!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-2732361402146113602007-01-30T13:41:00.000-06:002007-01-30T17:18:51.521-06:00#4-8 More StuffHumor:
Patty is humorous in that she doesn’t understand how much everyone dislikes her. She is the kind of girl who gets made fun of every day, and then comes back the next day as if you’re her best friend. there is also humor in her sex appeal. She tries to pull in Danny by being like Rizzo because she has street smarts that Sandy is still developing (but does not entirely lack). When she sudden;y shows her sexy, street smart personality it is humorous on it’s own. She is afraid of the world, but understands it well and has plenty of street smarts. However, this is the world that destroyed her older brother. She is torn not only between her need to be liked, and her dislike for the world she lives in, but also her love of school, and the fact that the Greasers dislike her and torment her.

Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-61207397328854069022007-01-30T10:49:00.000-06:002007-01-30T13:21:14.682-06:00#1 Relationship1) Relationship:
Pink Ladies: Patty used to be closer with the Pink Ladies in grade school, but they grew apart tramendously in high school. She still wants to be accepted by them, and tries to maintain their friendship even though it is no longer exsistant.
Sandy: Patty see’s Sandy as someone who has no been given the chance to dislike her yet. She wants to befriend Sandy while she has the chance.
Danny: Patty is in lust with Danny, mostly because she wants to change him. He reminds her so much of her brother, but Danny doesn’t seem to notice Patty exsists.
Burger Palace Boys: The Burger Palace Boys odviously do nothing but pick on Patty, but she tries to play it off. It doesn’t work too well, and she is clear upset about it.
Eugene: Patty see’s Eugene as a pathetic lump of hunan flesh. But, she accepts Eugene because she unlike the Greasers, can see that he has potential and that he is a nice young man, who clearly has eyes for her.
Miss Lynch: Miss Lynch is probably a key player in Patty’s “clique.” She tries to show Miss Lynch respect, but the Greasers won’t have it.
Vince: Patty is a huge fan of Vince Fountain. She has never met him, but it was her idea to convince Miss Lynch to have him at the dance.
Frenchy: Patty see’s some good in Frenchy, which is why she tends to stand closer to her in an attempt to fit in with the Pink Ladies.

Unfortunately, it's in the third person. Arg, better get into character better. Well. off the dance!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-67138729083120092512007-01-29T22:32:00.000-06:002007-01-29T22:39:19.713-06:00Patty Has Great Jugs!We had another rehearsal today for the prom scene. man dancing back then was tiring. I can't believe that did that all night. That just shows us how lazy, and out of shape America is at this point in time.

I get to do a lift with Chris and have my skirt all up over my head. I'm so excited, it'll be fun. I told Nick about it, he thinks it's awesomely hilerious and threatened to hoot and holar in the audience when it happens.

I keep forgetting the same damn part of Hand Jive, I guess I'll just do it over and over. i think I'm thinking too hard. Way too hard. I do that a lot and it tends to mess things up. Stupid over thinking. Dumb brain!

Well I'm about the go off to bed. I made some huge progress on the homework situation so I'll have lots of time (and by that I mean two hours) to do Grease research tomorrow. After I clean my room that is... it's a mess! BTW new goal is lose 3 pounds and then STOP BEING SO DAMN UNHEALTHY! I'm dancing 6 days a week now so if I want to be able to keep up in the prom scene, I'm gonna have to whip myself into shape! Also drink 64 oz. of water.

Hoping I stop being sick soon, it's hard to listen to Scott when I strat having random coughing fits, and I usually leave because if I'm making noise then no one else can hear him either. (arg!)

Ready for Modern Dance class tomorrow, clean the room, write a page of my research paper and then Grease Grease Grease!

Goo night everyone!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-33450208324340171792007-01-29T15:13:00.001-06:002007-01-29T15:13:32.303-06:00New Films from NetflixRebel Without a Cause
High School Confidential
The Blob
Hot Rod Girl
The Delinquents
Rock Around the ClockErin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-81523201112636730042007-01-29T09:32:00.000-06:002007-01-29T09:43:53.836-06:00Dance RehearsalSo like I said yesterday we had dance rehearsal for the prom scene. Boy do I ever hurt today. But that's a good thing. Robin said Chris and I were going to do a lift and my dress is going to be up showing my panties, so I'm pretty excited about that. I know, something only an actor would be excited about, flashing their butt everywhere, but I am!

Chris and I are dancing together in the prom scene. We figured out that we're pretty good at most of the moves, but the ones we aren't good at we really suck, big time. But we'll get it, I think the communication just isn't quite there because I'm terrible at following anyone for any reason. It's so remedial. I think we're going to try to come up with some kind of pattern that we do some not only will he lead, but we'll also have our own little thing memorized. That should eliminate most of the kinks.

I didn't break it to poor Nick (the boyfriend) that he'll have to practice with me yet. But he loves running lines and helping me with my homework (he IS a cinematographer for god's sake) so maybe he'll take to swing dancing just as nicely... I can only hope.

I got lots of video's in my indox from Scott this morning so I've been watching those non-stop trying to pick out some Patty dance moves. Dancing was certainly more involved back then than it is now. Now people just kind of shake around until some rap song with specific instructions on what to do comes on. Then you had to like... have a dialogue... and kind of know how to dance. Maybe that's why everyone was so skinny! That and the fact that McDonald's wasn't supersizing their meals to a greasy 1,000 calorie pile of glory.

Well, I have dance class in about an hour and then Modern World Cinema. Good news is I think we're watching a movie from 1958. I believe we're watching Hitchcocks Vertigo today. Hmm. Man am I tired. We did everything (or mostly everything) in the prom scene today. I'm about ready to pass out! I always thought the dancing looked really cool and now I know how to do some of it. My poor boyfriend is going to have to practice this stuff with me. Anyway, I'm about to lay down and do some homework --maybe in that order, maybe not-- but I didn't find this this afternoon which I had a fun time laughing over. I believe it's actually from 1955.

So yeah. I'm going to try to get off book for Act II tonight. As soon as I finish my homework that is, so off I go!

Mwah! xoxoErin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-60827612506536238102007-01-27T17:04:00.000-06:002007-01-27T17:07:40.817-06:00Telephone Booth Stuffing
So, right after I posted just now I found this. No I'm not kidding. I'm whole-heartedly serious. Good lord. So I don't have to much time right now to go into detail but I am definately bookmarking that page and coming back to it. I'm entirely interested in these weird things that apperently were cool or something.Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-89803716844141624552007-01-27T16:36:00.000-06:002007-01-27T17:00:55.964-06:00Info From Catherine's Boyfriend's MomSo I sent an email out to most of my friends asking them if they doing anyone who was in high school in the mid to late 50's. Liz's dad was in high school in 1959 so I'm going to go spend a day with them later this month. Catherine also found out that her boyfriend's mom was in high school around 1956 but didn't finish for personal reasons much like Rizzo's. So Cat spent a while talking to her about that and wrote me an email about their conversation. Some of it on hair and make-up was a little interesting.

"They usually wore either white cotton button downs or sweaters with collars under the neck. They were saddle shoes with their socks pulled to their knees.Hair: She said that almost everyone had short hair. If a girl had long hair, they never wore it down and always had it in what she called a "fake" ponytail. She said they did this thing called a "ducktail". Basically, they would all get boy cuts, then pull the sides of their hair back, and then turn into a very small ponytail in the back. Yeah I was confused to. As for makeup, she said they had basically nude faces, with a little cheek, a little eye and that was it. Not many did lipstick, unless it was a dance or something."

It's kind of funny how different the times were then as apposed to now. I noticed in some of the pictures I was browsing this morning that the cheerleaders didn't even wear short-ish skirts. They were calf, almost ankle length. Good lord! How do you cheer like that? But then again, I don't really think cheerleading was a major competetive sport then either.

She also said the cheerleaders were snobbish and elitist. Catherine didn't say anything else about that, but it give me the impression that they weren't the stupid, idiotic stereotype that cheerleaders today are labled as at all. I'm sure they were perky, that's what cheering is, but it makes me think they were more sophisticated snobbish then valley girl ignorant, which is how Patty is always played. It sounds like she wasn't supposed to be that way, and looking at the script, I'm starting to think that's not what the writers meant either. But I might be way off base. Especially since it's hard to label an entire group of people as one thing.

That's all for right now!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5887379716589448533.post-45323277741239210642007-01-27T13:11:00.000-06:002007-01-27T13:19:50.356-06:00People Were Not Cute!So I decided to look through a few more pictures online before going out to lunch. It kind raised a question. Are people now as ugly as they were in 1959? Because a lot of these people are just not atrractive. I'm also thinking this is probably due in part to how people evolve, and how styles change so dramaticly. There just such a huge difference!

Some cheerleaders

Well anyway, later I'm going to go through some old old pictures of my family and see if there is anything interesting in there. That should become a New Line tradition. It was so much fun to hang out and get to know a little something about the girls tonight. I think bonding and being closer to friends makes a cast blend well together.

Patty and Frenchy later in the night

I had some oyster shooters which was new, Kene ate some crawfish for the first time, Katie had some kind of rice and beans, Isabel had chips and jumbalaya, and everyone eventually met my boy. Yep, a good time in female bonding was had by all as the Greaser girls tried to learn how to smoke.

Isabel after french inhaling the smoke

Well the bars were a great time with the girls tonight. Total bonding 100%. This show is proving to be a ton of work, and a ton of fun. See everyone Sunday!Erin Marie Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10107743430758934185noreply@blogger.com0
